I participated in the 2016 Sports Shooter Workshop in Costa Mesa, California. During my time at the workshop, I chose three sporting events to photograph, including boxing. La Habra Boxing Club is about a 45-minute drive from our headquarters, and we arrived in the afternoon on the first day of the workshop catching many of the kids who had just gotten out of school. A wave of young adults arrived to train for upcoming international competitions. I observed the environment like any other visual documentarian, but quickly recognized the intimacy and rawness in the club.
