“Le Ton Parfumes” – Matt Coatney

annotated-CoatneyStyleGuide

The art and ethos of the De Stijl movement inspired me to create “Le Ton Parfums.” Piet Mondrian especially — he was the pioneer behind it all. De Stijl’s philosophy and artwork plays with motifs of duality. De Stijl artwork has a simplicity in form, but an abstraction in the idea of form. Compositions of rigid geometry and primary colors is how visual art can express its ideals. But, outside of the visual, the other four senses lacked representation in this style. I wanted to take this philosophy and explore how simplicity and abstraction works with scents and smell.
